A Dazzling Exhibit: Cartier at the V&A

A Dazzling Reason to Visit London in 2025: Cartier at the V&A

If you needed another excuse to visit London next year, here it is: the V&A is set to unveil its first major exhibition in nearly three decades dedicated to the legendary world of Cartier. From April 12 to November 16, 2025, this highly anticipated showcase will be a celebration of Cartier’s unmatched legacy in fine jewelry and watchmaking, featuring over 350 extraordinary pieces from the maison’s storied history.

The exhibition will be a journey through Cartier’s evolution, tracing its rise from a Parisian family-run business to an internationally renowned jewelry powerhouse. Founded by Louis-François Cartier in 1847, the brand gained global prominence under the leadership of his grandsons, establishing boutiques in Paris, London, and New York. Cartier soon became known as ‘the jeweler of kings and the king of jewelers,’ favored by royalty, aristocrats, and celebrities alike.

Among the exhibition’s breathtaking highlights:

  • The Williamson Diamond Brooch, commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II in 1953, featuring an ultra-rare 23.6-carat pink diamond.
  • The Scroll Tiara, worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation and later by Rihanna on the cover of W magazine.
  • Grace Kelly’s iconic engagement ring from 1956, part of the Monaco Princely Palace Collection.
  • The legendary Cartier panther jewels, including a stunning diamond and onyx bracelet from 1978.
  • The famous Crash wristwatch (1967), one of the most distinctive designs in watchmaking history.
  • The exquisite Manchester Tiara, created in 1903 for the Dowager Duchess of Manchester.
  • The snake necklace (1968) designed for Mexican film star María Félix, a bold and extravagant statement of Cartier’s craftsmanship.

In addition to these iconic creations, visitors will have the chance to explore rarely seen sketches and design archives, shedding light on Cartier’s unparalleled artistry and innovation.

Helen Molesworth and Rachel Garrahan, the exhibition’s curators, emphasize that Cartier’s legacy is not just about luxury but also about innovation, exceptional craftsmanship, and cultural significance.
